- Song Found On:
The Runaways
1977
- Without making gender an explicit issue, Joan
Jett has been recognized by many pop music fans and critics as a leading
voice for several generations of female rockers. "School Days" was co-written
by Joan when she was with THE RUNAWAYS, the first female band to rock as hard
as the boys. The band was originially formed when five teenage girls (the oldest was
seventeen) from the suburbs of LA hooked up with Hollywood record producer Kim
Fowley. A motion picture about The Runaways (the film is called Edgeplay) has been
recently produced by a former band member. For professional reasons, Joan Jett was
not supportive of this project.

SCHOOL DAYS
By Joan Jett with The Runaways

Lyrics:
Used to be the troublemaker
Hated homework, was a sweet heartbreaker
But now I have my dream
I'm so rowdy for eighteen
Never read a single book
Hated homework and the dirty looks
But now I live my life
There's a lot I've seen at eighteen . . . oh yeah
School days, school days
I'm older now and what will I find but my
School days, school days
Starting to slip I'm losin' my mind
Used to be the wild one
Hated class only lived for fun
I'm mean an' got my schemes
At the crazy age of eighteen
Never made the honor roll
Hated rules what I was told
Now I am almost free
It's a dangerous scene when you're eighteen . . . oh yeah
School days, school days
I'm older now and what will I find but my
School days, school days
Starting to slip I'm losin' my mind
