CRIMINAL OFFENSES
WHICH SERVE TO BAR EMPLOYMENT
IN A SCHOOL DISTRICTCompleting a teacher education program is not the only requirement one must meet to be employed in Ohio schools. Ohio Law (Ohio Revised Code 3319.39) identifies thirty-four (34) criminal offenses, felonies and misdemeanors, which serve as a bar to employment in a school district. You are required to be fingerprinted as part of your application for certification/licensure and upon application for employment. Thus, if you have committed these offenses it will be discovered. It is suggested that if you have been convicted of any of the offenses listed, you meet immediately with a professional in the University Counseling Center in the Beeghly College of Education, Beeghly Hall, Room 3305 to determine a course of action. You would not want to spend four years pursuing a teacher education program in vain.
